I’ve always believed a fine photograph can be found almost anywhere. In some places you must look a bit harder, but if I have a camera in hand, I’m happy to be almost anywhere. Someone once said that when they visit a new or unusual location for a short length of time, they attempt to distill everything into one, two, or perhaps a few photographs. I think this is an interesting concept, and on occasion I’ve tried to do this. In some instances I’ve had the opportunity to spend more time in some places, often over a period of years. This allows working in a more leisurely fashion and results in more elaborate projects. Some of my favorite photographs, however, have been the result of a chance visit to an unexpected place that yielded a single image.
